AUNAP Strengthens Fishing in La Guajira: 961 Producers Formalized by the End of 2024.

As part of its compliance with Ruling T-302 of 2017 and the Provisional Action Plan, the National Authority for Aquaculture and Fisheries (AUNAP) reports historic progress in formalizing stakeholders in La Guajira’s fishing and aquaculture sector.

As of the end of 2024, the agency had identified and formally registered 961 fishers and aquaculture producers, significantly exceeding its institutional target of 580 and representing 165.69% achievement. Focused on the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, Uribia, and Maicao, this effort has provided formal recognition to 887 artisanal fishers and 74 aquaculture producers, integrating them into institutional monitoring and registration systems.

The process went beyond administrative registration. It included technical fieldwork to assess operating conditions and the actual needs of local communities. Through this unified database, producers can now access specialized technical assistance, productive-development projects, and government support mechanisms. These measures recognize the value of their ancestral work and promote food security in the region. This proactive initiative reaffirms AUNAP’s commitment to the effective enjoyment of rights by facilitating the inclusion of Wayúu and rural communities in the country’s formal economy.
